ZOCS paid a courtesy call on Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Education. During the meeting ZOCS amplified its call on among other issues the need for the ministry together with the Teaching Service Commission to consider recruiting Volunteer Teachers with qualifications serving in Community Schools.

With the changes in climatic conditions, ending hunger through school feeding initiatives becomes a source of joy for many children in Community Schools. As schools open for the year 2025, learners at Chikanza Community School can now enjoy a hot and healthy meal, thanks to Addie, a fifth grader at Notre Dame Academy and her grandparents Judy & Jerry Turba based in Wisconsin-USA. This family has been in the forefront fundraising for the drilling of a borehole (now done) and feeding at that school in rural Choma.

This week, we launched the report “Early Childhood Education in Zambia: The Cost of Inaction”, written by DNA Economics for the Government of Zambia, together with the Ministry of Education.

The report assesses the costs and benefits associated with the implementation of comprehensive universal Early Childhood Education (ECE) services for children aged 3 to 6 in Zambia, to inform decision-making processes and policy development by the government.
