MULILANTAMBO COMMUNITY SCHOOL SUCCESS STORY

Before ZOCS introduced the School Readiness Initiative Project intervention at the school, ECE learners used to learn from a dilapidated grass thatched structure. The idea of a play-park was not in the minds of the community at that time. The school had few learns transitioning to the next grade, this was as a result of drop out, poverty and lack of parental involvement at school level. The school total enrollment was at 58 only 12 ECE learners. The school had one volunteer teacher, who was paid by the community.

ZOCS introduced the School Readiness Initiative Project intervention at the school, a new modern ECE structure (round hut) was constructed. It has enough lighting open window for fresh air. The round hut is currently one of the best structures at the school.

The new school Play-park done by the community with support from ZOCS under SRI project- Mkushi district.

SRI introduced the idea of a playpark and school feeding, which were not in the minds of the community at that time. The concept of the playpark has motivated learners to come to school and stay longer hours playing, children even visit the school premises on the weekend just to come and play. The enrollment and transition have increased, the school total enrollment is currently at 156 compared to 58 before. The ECE enrollment is now at 31. There is less drop out and strengthened parental involvement at school level.
