The arrival of Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) in Chikankata District has not only transformed Early Childhood Education (ECE) but also created an irresistible learning environment that has become a magnet for young learners.
Prior to ZOCS’ involvement, the school grappled with numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure and lack of resources to make learning engaging for the youngest pupils.
ZOCS tackled these issues head-on with a holistic approach. ZOCS began with constructing an ECE classrooms and making it a child-friendly space that has fostered curiosity and creativity.
The play park has had a profound impact on the school. It serves as both a learning and recreational space, allowing children to develop critical motor, social, and cognitive skills through structured play. Moreover, it has become a powerful attraction, drawing children from their homes to school in unprecedented numbers.
Coupled with these physical transformations, ZOCS empowered teachers with modern training (Early Learning Kiosk) that emphasized interactive, play-based teaching methods ensuring that learning is both enjoyable and impactful.
The results have been nothing short of remarkable. Enrollment at buchebuche Community School has surged, with the play park acting as a pulling magnet for learners who now view school as a place of fun, exploration, and growth. Attendance rates have stabilized, and children are more enthusiastic about their education.
This success story extends beyond the school grounds. The play park and ZOCS' other initiatives have fostered a sense of pride and ownership within the community. Parents and local leaders have become active stakeholders, contributing their time and resources to sustain and build upon the progress made.
We at Buchebuche Community School, extend our heartfelt gratitude to ZOCS for their unwavering commitment to transforming education. The play park and their broader interventions have given our children a reason to dream, to learn, and to excel a legacy that will resonate for generations.
