We are reaching more than 40, 000 OVC with basic education in Zambia |
Nearly ¼ million children in Zambia are out of school![]() The educational right of these children is being taken away. ZOCS believes that every child must be in school. Poor children, especially girls and the disabled children must also enjoy quality education just like any other child in Zambia. Entry into school is important for these children but ZOCS also seeks to provide quality education to those who would otherwise have no hope of an education. We believe that cultural activities contribute to providing a quality basic education to children. We therefore assist community schools to incorporate culture and the arts in education to OVC. The arts play a major role in the development and well being of the child. Children are encouraged to participate in the arts which include; drama, music, visual arts, dance and poetry.

ZOCS helps communities to be self sufficient
ZOCS supports communities and families of OVC including grandmothers who are responsible for their care through Income Generating Activities.
Income Generating Activities such as vegetable growing help to improve the nutrition of the OVC as well as the whole community. Parent Community School Committees can also raise income by selling their produce to the community which helps them to improve school sustainability.
Through community participation schools are able to continue operating helping hundreds of children to remain in school. ZOCS' other projects include entrepreneurship training, school management and fundraising courses, peer education trainings in HIV/AIDS prevention and psycho-social support. Through its Community Development programme, ZOCS encourages communuties to participate in the construction of their own schools thereby enhancing a sense of ownership of the schools. |
